On the night before 2016 commencement, February 22, about 150 UNIST graduates gathered for the first UNIST Alumni Night at 7 p.m. at Kyoung Dong Hall. This event was held for organizing an official alumni association and selecting a temporary president of an alumni association.
Mr. Hoon Hahn Yoon in a combined master’s and doctorate program in the Natural Science was selected as temporary president of UNIST alumni association. “I will try to communicate with alumni and make a better environment for students on both inside and outside of campus,” Yoon said.
President Mooyoung Jung, Vice President Jae Sung Lee, Prof. Franklin Bien (Dean of Public Relations and International Relations), Prof. Jaephil Cho (Dean of Research Affairs), and President Sungchul Bae (UNIST Academy-Industry Research Corporation) also attended to congratulate the beginning of UNIST alumni association.
President Jung said, “It is a very meaningful event since we launched an official alumni organization for the first time. After relaunching as the government funded national research institute last year, UNIST has been trying more actively to communicate and develop in every section. Please do not forget that UNIST is always behind you and will be in your heart forever.”
Dean Bien presented about UNIST development fund and asked alumni for participating in fundraising event. He also talked about the cases of other famous schools such as Stanford University, M.I.T, and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor to explain how actively their alumni are engaging into donation programs for their schools’ development.
