[URI-LO] Towards Safe and Secure Use of Nuclear Energy
An innovation platform aimed at improving the efficiency and safety in nuclear power plant operation made its debut at UNIST. The so-called UNIST Reactor Innovation LOop (URI-LO) is about one-eight the size of a nuclear power plant. The platform serves as a test bed for the maturity assessment of various technologies that can be applicable towards innovation in nuclear energy technology. URI-LO was established by reference to APR-1400, the first export model of Korean nuclear power plant exported to the United Arab Emirate (UAE). And this was a combined effort by the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (KHNP), Ulsan, Gyeongju, and Pohang. With the help of this platform, anyone can easily apply new ideas about nuclear power plants that were once inaccessible. Thus, this will help establish the basis for developing innovative nuclear safety technologies.
