Each February, UNIST confers honorary, graduate, and undergraduate degrees on Commencement day, the culmination of a campus-wide celebration. Today is a day of pageantry, celebration, and ceremony, as UNIST holds its Commencement ceremony.
Friends and family poured into UNIST Gymnasium to the sound of UNISTra’s musical performance to watch the graduation of loved ones. This year’s Commencement Ceremony was preceeded by student and academic processions through campus. The ceremony featured the conferral of degrees, followed by the awarding of honorary degrees, greetings by University Officials and remarks by the honored guests, including Gi-Hyeon Kim (the Mayor of Ulsan City), and Cha-Yol Koo (the Board Chair), .
Alumni are an integral part of this celebration. Since its opening, UNIST has turned out a total of 1,059 graduates, including 45 Doctoral and 232 Master’s students. At the ceremony, President Moo Je Cho awarded 35 honorary doctoral, 92 Master’s, and 320 bachelor’s degrees to students graduating after the completion of the winter semester.
After the awarding of honorary degrees, President Cho delievered the commencement address during the ceremony for the UNIST graduating class of 2015. President Cho states, “Class of 2015, today you’re a step closer to your dream and will soon be reaping the fruits of your hard work.” He adds, “Take the time to reflect on what you’ve done and relish in your accomplishment. Wishing you all the best for what life now has in store for you.”
