UNIST is the Cradle of S&T where You Can Grow into the Future Leaders of Tomorrow!

The 2022 UNIST Matriculation Ceremony took place in the 2F Auditorium of the Main Administration Building at UNIST on Friday, February 18, 2022.

The ceremony featured the Oath of Freshmen, followed by the awarding of UNISTAR scholarship certificates, as well as greetings and welcome remarks by UNIST President Yong Hoon Lee and other distinguished guests.

For all the matriculating students, President Lee noted, “UNIST will continue provide innovative education opportunities that will help you grow into talented thinkers.He then added, “We, therefore, strongly encourage you to actively participate and take full advantage of opportunities for growth.”

The 2022 Matriculation Ceremony, held in 2F Auditorium of Main Administration Building at UNIST, welcomed 448 freshmen.

Welcome, new members of UNIST!

Today, we celebrate the arrival of freshmen and transfer students. Please allow me to express my warm welcome to all of you on his auspicious occasion.

As I welcome you to UNIST, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the contributions of your parents, family members, and teachers who have supported you on your road to UNIST.

Dear UNIST Freshmen!

UNIST is a young university that opened in 2009. Compared to world-leading universities with long histories, UNIST is only taking its first steps.

However, despite its short 12-year history, UNIST has positioned itself to become one of the world’s leading universities for science and technology, with achievements that have been recognized both at home and abroad.

Today, UNIST is among the world’s top 10 universities, according the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2021. UNIST’s cutting-edge research, particularly in the fields of materials science, chemistry, and energy has helped the university maintain a strong presence among the top 5 universities in South Korea.

Building on its solid foundation for research and education in the fields of carbon neutrality, AI, semiconductors, and smart healthcare, UNIST seeks to create a brighter future for our country and its regions.

This is the result of our pursuit to become a “world-leading university for the advancement of science and technology for the prosperity of humankind.”

Dear UNIST Freshmen!

You will now join us in this process of UNIST’s remarkable success.

UNIST is preparing to take a greater leap into the future. That is, to become the leading institute for science and technology in South Korea. And by extension, becoming a future-ready institute that will transform our country and its regions through innovation.

To this end, we have also made specific plans to comprehensively promote the growing fields of carbon neutrality, semiconductors, biotechnology, and medical science, as new growth engines. In this day, we will create new industrial capabilities in these areas that are essential for the future, and create new opportunities for change starting from the southeastern region of South Korea.

Being the first to take on challenges and rise to the top is what sets UNIST apart from other institutions. The achievements that UNIST has made so far prove this.

I urge you to play a central and crucial role in UNIST’s aspirations. If we all work together, there is nothing that we cannot accomplish.

UNIST is the cradle of science and technology where you can grow into the future leaders of tomorrow! UNIST strives to foster an effective research environment where students are free to explore and innovate, as much as they want.

Through our short-term undergraduate course program, ‘One Day Lecture,’ you will gain firsthand experience with cutting-edge technology faster than anyone else. If you have a field of interest, you can form a research club and explore it happily. Last year, a total of 83 research clubs, including the BTS practical research team and the AI Challengers Program (AICP) research team, were formed to conduct voluntary research in various fields. There are also 19 new courses waiting for you to explore new fields in a practical way.

UNIST will continue provide innovative education opportunities that will help you grow into talented thinkers. We, therefore, strongly encourage you to actively participate and take full advantage of opportunities for growth.

I wish you the very best as you embark on your path to earn your degree at UNIST. As you walk the campus, feel proud that you are part of this wonderful university. I look forward to your shining future.
