Welcome, New Members of UNIST!

As I welcome you to UNIST, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the contributions of your parents, family members, and teachers who have supported you on your roads to UNIST.
Dear UNIST Freshmen!
UNIST is a young, but strong university that is celebrating its 14th anniversary. We have earned the distinction of having the highest number of the world’s top 1% ‘Highly Cited Researchers (HCR)’ among universities nationwide.
UNIST has also been recognized as the No.1 university in S. Korea and No.11 in the world, according to the latest THE Young University Rankings, which lists the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger.
Your campus life at UNIST will be the basis for you to freely communicate as a dignified member of the international arena.
As our school motto clearly states, our education principle emphasizes the importance of ‘Learning by Doing.’
Our students have been actively involved in over 120 research clubs, challenging the world stage. As a result, UNIST ranked No. 1 in Asia and No. 6 in the world at the ANA Avatar XPRIZE competition, organized by the XPRIZE Foundation.
Dear UNIST Freshmen!
UNIST is the cradle of global tech startups.
More than 160 startup companies were created at UNIST and they have achieved remarkable achievements, such as being listed on the KOSDAQ market for the first time and winning the ‘$5M Export Tower.’
There are 80 startup clubs, founded by students of UNIST. Class 101, as you may already know, is also a student-led startup company from UNIST.
Dear UNIST Freshmen!
UNIST is the cradle of science and technology where you can grow into the talented scientific leaders of the future.
Through our short-term undergraduate program, ‘One-day Lecture Series,’ you will gain firsthand experience, up-to-the-minute trends in science and technology, faster than anyone else. Through our long-term internship
UNIST will be with you every step of the way, guiding you towards your goals and supporting your ambitions.
UNIST offers a wealth of educational opportunities to help you grow into a great man of intellect in this society. We, thus, encourage your active participation in various programs that we provide, such as the ‘Reading Program,’ run by UNIST Library under its slogan ‘Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader,’ as well as the ‘UNIST Orchestra,’ and the ‘UNIST Rowing Club‘ that won numerous awards at inter-university rowing competitions.
There also has been a great improvement on campus amenities. Student dormitories have been fully renovated and UNIST Clinic & Pharmacy were also officially launched.
Various efforts have also been made to improve the quality of dining services on campus, such as providing healthy and affordable meals.
In addition to this, we operate the ‘Youth Bus’ service for our students to experience nearby attractions over the weekends, so that they can have a break from their studies and return refreshed.
Dear UNIST Freshmen!
Enjoy the sense of accomplishment by planning ahead and using your time wisely during your time at UNIST.
We all have 168 hours in a week and your future depends on how you use that time. Study diligently, but at the same time invest your time in your physical and mental health.
UNIST envisions a new leap forward to become a world-class research university, both in name and reality, by entering the top 100 of the world ranking.
Your personal growth and development are the key to the success of UNIST. We, thus, urge everyone to be part of this endeavor and work collaboratively toward shared goals. If we all work together, there is nothing that we cannot accomplish.
I once again congratulate you on starting your first year at UNIST and look forward to meeting you on campus soon.
Thank you.
