UNIST President Mooyoung Jung was one of the 1,700 participants of the invitation-only Summer Davos Forum 2016, the World Economic Forum’s global meeting on innovation, science and technology.
This three-day forum has been attended by nearly 90 government officials, business leaders, policymakers, experts, and scholars. Among them there were also Premier Li Keqiang of China and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn of the Republic of Korea.
The event explores the economic, societal, cultural and ecological impact of the latest shift in human history revolving the theme of “The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Its Transformational Impact”. The concept of Industry 4.0, or the fourth industrial revolution, embraces automation, data exchange and new manufacturing technologies. It includes the internet of things and the internet of services.
During the course of the meeting, President Jung met with Director Helena Leurent (Future of Manufacturing, FOM Division) to hold bilateral discussions on the impact that the fourth industrial revolution will have on Ulsan, compared with previous industrial revolutions. President Jung has also asked experts from Davos forum’s FOM Division to actively participate in the upcoming Ulsan Future Industry Forum 2016.
With the 20th anniversary of Ulsan’s elevation to the metropolitan city just one year away, the invitation from President Klaus Schwab of WEF and holding a conference with FOM Division are necessary for Ulsan to become world-class industrial city.
The Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2016 took place from June 26 to 28 in the northern coastal city of Tianjin, China. The WEF’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions, known as ‘Summer Davos’, is one of the most important global business gatherings in Asia.
During his visit in China, President Jung had also been invited to attend the Global University Leader Forum (GULF), a community of the presidents of the top 25 universities in the world. There, he talked about the future of higher education and the role of science in society.
