On Monday, January 3, President Mooyoung Jung extended his new year’s greetings to all faculty members and executive members of UNIST, assembled in the auditorium at UNIST Kyungdong Hall.
The opening ceremony of 2017 for the New Year, held at the Auditorium, Main Administration Building, UNIST on January 2, 2016.
“In the year of 2016, UNIST identifies its key task of raising the quality and efficiency of all activities, especially in scientific research to set the premise to soon become a world-class research-oriented university, maintain our leading position in the higher education institutions of South Korea and reach high international rankings,” says President Jung. “This monumental achievement is due, in large part, to your tireless efforts, hard work, and dedication.”

At the ceremony, four faculty and staff members of UNIST were also honored with the annual Outstanding Employee of the Year Award. The Outstanding Employee of the Year Award acknowledges outstanding service of an employee who has consistently excelled in his or her work. Those honored as recipients of the 2016 Outstanding Employee Award were: Professor Steve Granick (IBS Center for Soft and Living Matter, UNIST), Professor Young-Bin Park (School of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering), Team Leader Young Ki Kim (Research Supporting team), and Team Leader JunYong Jang (Public Relations team).

During the course of the event, President Jung also granted commendation to the seven excellent employees praising their hard work. Employees who received this award are MinJae Kim (Research Supporting team), Jin Hyuk Seo (Planning team), Do Hun Kwon (General Affairs team), Doyeon Kim (UNIST Library team), Nahee Nam (Administrative Office of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering), and Jae Sung Cho (Student Supporting team).

Based on the 2016 Team Assessment, the following teams were also recognized for their outstanding work. In the business sector, Budget Policy team was rated as “Outstanding”, while Technology Commercialization Center and Public Relations team were rated as “Good”. In the service sector, Facilities team was rated as “Outstanding”, while Library team, Research Planning team, and Research Supporting team were rated as “Good”. In the academic sector, the following administrative offices were praised for their excellence in performance: School of Urban and Environmental Engineering and School of Materials Science and Engineering.
