A UNIST graduate student, Jumi Park in the School of Life Sciences at UNIST has been honored to receive the 2020 Takara Award from the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (KSBMB).
The winners were honored at the annual KSBMB International Conference, which took place online from September 21 to 23, 2020. During the conference, KSBMB has announced the recipients of its 2020 Awards for Moosa Award Lecture, Donghun Award, Sasuk Award, Macrogen Woman Scientist Award, BMB Reports Awards, EMM Awards, Chungsan Award, as well as Takara Awards.
The Takara Award is bestowed upon the members of KMS who have greatly contributed to the development of mathematics trough publication of high quality papers that have been released over the last three years. This year, Ms. Jumi Park has been named among the 2020 recipient of the Takara Award.
The 2020 Takara Award has been presented to Ms. Jumi Park (School of Life Sciences, UNIST) at the KSBMB International Conference.
This award has been given to Ms. Park She in recognition of her work with the structure and function of proteins that are play an important role for inter-organellar membrane contact sites (MCSs). During her work, she has identified the structure of protein complexes, capable of selectively mediating various forms of autophagy at the membrane contact sites between the nuclear-lysosome and lysosome-CVT follicles, and thus has unveiled the mechanism at the molecular level. She has also carried out further research to reveal the structure of enzyme protein that is expected to be involved in the processing of RNA at inter-organelle membrane contact sites of mitochondria.
These findings have been published in internationally renowned journals, such as PNAS, Nucleic Acid Research (NAR), and Autophagy. At the conference, Ms. Park was recognized by the judging panel for presenting the current status of her research and plan, regarding the protein complex structure that helps with autophagy, and thus has received their particular attention.
