UNIST is giving its students the opportunity to gain hands-on work experiences in complex real-world contexts, provided by its new career training program.
Preparations are in full swing for its first co-operative (Co-Op) education program, since the first meeting which took place on December 28, 2020. It was attended by 7 students who began participating in the program, as of January 4, 2021.
The UNIST Co-Op program is a long-term paid internship, where students earn a salary as they work with professionals in their fields of study. The program features real-world employers offering full-time paid positions to current students, who alternate semesters between the co-op and their normal class schedules. The program consists of 2 months of pre-training, in addition to 6 months of hands-on work.
The first semester of the UNIST Co-Op program has been carried out in support of the following four companies: Naver Corp., LG Electronics Inc., Korea Zinc Co., Ltd., and Wonik IPS Co., Ltd. This year, a total of 7 students joined the Co-Op program: 3 from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, 3 from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and 1 from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. These students began their pre-training education on January 4, 2021. Upon competition, on-site training for each student will be conducted for another 6 months from March 2, 2021.
Applications for the second-semester co-op will be accepted via the website of UNIST Innovative Education Center, starting January 2021.
