Co-hosted by UNIST and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), the 8th Supercomputing Youth Camp will take place at UNIST from July 29 to August 2, 2024.
The primary objective of this youth camp is to identify and nurture exceptional talent in the field of supercomputing, thereby cultivating the next generation of scientists. Since its inception in 2015, the camp has garnered applications from 199 high school teams nationwide, of which 30 teams comprising a total of 90 students will be selected to participate.
During the camp, participants will receive instruction in parallel computing application technologies and will engage in a comprehensive hands-on experience in implementing artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. Furthermore, a competitive element will be included, allowing teams to tackle parallel computing and AI tasks. The results of these assignments will be meticulously evaluated, with awards presented to exceptional performers to encourage excellence.
A series of lectures designed to foster interest in the sciences have also been arranged. The esteemed speakers include △ Professor Jooyeon Kim from the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence, presenting on “Using AI in the League of Legends E-sports Market,” △ Professor Yeon-Chang Lee from the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence, discussing “Artificial Intelligence and Recommended Technology: The Journey of AI to Understand My Taste,” and △ Professor Hae Yoon Lee from Korea University of Technology & Education (KOREATECH), presenting on “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Real Life.” These lectures are expected to provide participants with valuable insights and enriching experiences.
Director Chun Sang Yoo of UNIST Supercomputing Center, remarked, “We hope that the students participating in this camp will explore the potential of supercomputing and develop into the next generation of scientific talent.”
In addition, UNIST and KISTI, in collaboration with the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education, will be launching the “Winter Vacation AI Team Project Supercomputing Youth Camp” starting in 2024 to further cultivate digital talent in the Ulsan region. UNIST remains committed to fostering supercomputing capabilities within the community.
