The Kyungdong Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce its continued commitment to nurturing talented individuals at UNIST, having supported students for 16 years. The foundation is dedicated to awarding scholarships to those who have overcome economic challenges and demonstrated strong dedication to their studies. In addition, the foundation is preparing to launch a festival aimed at fostering creative talent among students.
On December 2, the foundation hosted the “2025 Kyungdong Scholarship Awards Presentation Ceremony” to recognize and reward students who have displayed outstanding academic achievement. Five freshmen (HyeongJun Gu, GyuBin Kim, YeoJun Kim, and JuHyun Baek) from the School of UNISTars received scholarship certificates, each worth 20 million won to support their academic journeys.
Since its inception in 2007, the Kyungdong Scholarship Foundation has provided scholarships and overseas training grants totaling approximately 1.871 billion won for 186 UNIST students. The foundation is committed to shaping individuals with global leadership capabilities, significantly contributing to both the academic community and society at large.
JuHyun Baek, a recipient from the School of UNISTars, expressed his gratitude for the support he has received. “Last month, I had a meaningful experience visiting the Yangsan Branch of Kyungdong City Gas Co. Ltd.,” he recalled. “Through exchanges with fellow scholarship recipients, I developed a strong sense of belonging. Thanks to the scholarship, I have been able to focus on my studies and research without financial worries. I am committed to working hard for the remaining three years with deep gratitude.”
The ceremony also highlighted its upcoming “U-Pioneers Creative Design Festival (Name Tentative),” set to debut in 2025. Co-hosted by UNIST and the Kyungdong Scholarship Foundation, this festival will provide students with a platform to engage in science and technology projects, showcasing their findings. Participants will have the opportunity to cultivate their creative problem-solving skills and apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
Local middle and high school students from Ulsan will also be invited to this innovative festival, sparking interest in science and technology and encouraging the development of creative thinking among young talents. Scholarships and research support funds will be awarded to six teams recognized as outstanding participants.
President Chong Rae Park, Chairman of the Kyungdong Scholarship Foundation, expressed gratitude for the foundation’s role in enhancing the academic achievements of UNIST students and fostering global leadership. “This festival launching in 2025 will present an exceptional opportunity for students to hone their problem-solving skills,” stated President Park. “We are dedicated to providing a platform that enables local students to pursue world-class innovation in science and technology.”
