On March 19, UNIST demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by visiting HyeJinWon, a social welfare facility for individuals with severe disabilities in Ulju County, in celebration of the 45th National Day for Persons with Disabilities. During the visit, UNIST presented commemorative gifts and support supplies to the children.
The university has maintained an ongoing partnership with HyeJinWon, actively engaging in various social contribution activities that embody the values of sharing and solidarity. These initiatives include annual events, such as concerts, outing companions, and community service activities, like Kimchi-making. In recognition of these efforts, HyeJinWon expressed its gratitude by bestowing a plaque of appreciation to Dean Young-Bin Park of Public Relations & International Affairs at UNIST.
Dean Park remarked, “UNIST is a university that advances science and technology while fulfilling its social responsibilities. We are committed to fostering mutually beneficial relationships with our local community.”
During the visit, a spring concert was held to bring joy to children with disabilities. The student piano club at UNIST, Pianista performed a soulful concert, offering beautiful melodies to the young attendees.
Professor Inkyoung Lee from the School of Liberal Arts at UNIST commented, “Music is a special medium that connects hearts across generations,” adding, “I am delighted that our students could communicate with their local neighbors through music.” Additionally, the UNIST volunteer club, ‘UNIST Heart,’ supported the event through on-site assistance and organizational efforts, spreading warmth and care.
UNIST has been consecutively acknowledged for its ongoing dedication to social contributions and designated as an institute recognized for social contributions in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, UNIST has made history by becoming the first educational institution to receive a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the community. These accolades reflect UNIST’s committed efforts across various domains, such as education and welfare, and underscore its resolve to foster coexistence and mutual growth with local communities.
