UNIST announced the successful completion of the second UNIST Industry-Academic Convergence Forum, held at the Market Hall of the University-Industry Cooperation Building. Under the theme of “Future Mobility,” the event facilitated strategic discussions on adapting to the rapidly changing industrial landscape.
Co-organized by the UNIST Office of University-Industry Relations and the K-Mobility Cluster Association (KMCA), the forum attracted approximately 100 participants from industry, academia, and research institutions. Attendees examined cutting-edge technologies and market trends to identify practical avenues for industry-academic collaboration.

Executive Director Chi-Hoon Choi of Hanwha Advanced Materials Corp. delivered the keynote speech on ‘Future Mobility Composite Material Technologies and Global Trends.’
The keynote speech was delivered by Chi-Hoon Choi, Executive Director of Hanwha Advanced Materials Corp. In his presentation titled “Future Mobility Composite Material Technologies and Global Trends,” Director Choi discussed approaches to lightweighting and enhancing the durability of composite materials, while also sharing insights into the competitive landscape and technological advancements in international markets.
The Open Innovation session featured presentations from large corporations, mid-sized enterprises, and startups, each showcasing their innovative technologies and strategic initiatives. Following the presentations, there was an active Q&A session and networking opportunities, fostering meaningful exchange among participants.

President Chong Rae Park highlighted the strategic importance of the mobility industry, stating, “The mobility sector is a key driver of regional future growth. Technological convergence and industry-academic cooperation will be central to this effort.” He added, “UNIST is committed to strengthening its efforts to build a collaborative ecosystem that enhances regional industrial competitiveness.”
UNIST plans to institutionalize this forum as a regular event to deepen ties with local industries. Through joint research and technology commercialization, the university aims to achieve tangible outcomes in industry-academic convergence.
Looking ahead, the third UNIST Industry-Academic Convergence Forum is scheduled for October 21, focusing on the aerospace and marine industries. The event will present specific collaboration models in sectors recognized as new engines of growth for the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region.
