UNIST Office of Research Affairs UNIST hosted the inaugural ‘2025 Research Administration Expert Training Program’ from June 14 to 16, 2025. This event marks the official launch of the university’s pioneering effort to cultivate research administration professionals through a specialized, certification-based education system.
This program is the first regular training course under the ‘U Research Administration Academy,’ established by UNIST to develop expert-level research administration personnel. The curriculum offers tailored, hands-on education covering the entire R&D cycle, aimed at enhancing practical skills and professionalism among research administrators.
A key feature of this initiative is its integration with the ‘UNIST Research Administration Certification System,’ the nation’s first education framework based on a formal certification. This system goes beyond conventional qualification programs by systematically recognizing the experience and expertise of research administration professionals, establishing a new standard for excellence in the field.
Research Management Team Leader SooYoun Son stated, “Building on our pilot program this year, we plan to systematically advance this certification system toward becoming a nationally recognized qualification, solidifying UNIST’s leadership in research administration education.”

Hana Shin from the Administration Office for Department of Chemistry, is sharing her know-how on managing UNIST research projects.
The program has garnered significant interest from related institutions. Over 200 research administration experts from UNIST, the University of Ulsan, POSTECH, DGIST, Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd., and other regional organizations have registered to participate.
The curriculum covers 12 core topics, including △ Understanding National R&D Projects, △ Understanding R&D Funding and Programs from MSIT and MOTIE, △ Practical Training on IRIS, Integrated Easy Baro, and RCMS Systems, △ Research Statistics, △ Research Security, △ Intellectual Property Rights.
Notably, lectures are designed and delivered by UNIST’s own experienced research administration faculty, emphasizing practical, real-world application rather than theoretical knowledge alone.
A highlight video capturing the vibrant training environment, participant enthusiasm, and key moments will be shared via UNIST’s official social media channels, showcasing the energy and commitment of attendees.

President Chong Rae Park is delivering a welcome speech at the ‘2025 Research Administration Expert Training Program,’ held on June 14, 2025.
UNIST President Chong Rae Park expressed his support, stating, “Research administration personnel are key partners in elevating the quality of research outcomes,” and emphasized, “Through this education and certification system, UNIST aims to officially recognize and systematically manage the practical expertise of our research administrators.”
Director KwanMyung Kim of the Office of Research Affairs added, “By reflecting on the needs of the field, we will foster the professional growth of research administrators and create an environment conducive to research immersion, while instilling pride in their vital roles.”
