UNIST has been designated an excellent certification institution in the 2025 International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS) evaluation, announced by the Ministry of Education (MOE) on February 12, 2026.
IEQAS is a national quality assurance framework jointly administered by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) to strengthen the internationalization capacity and global competitiveness of Korean higher education. The system evaluates universities across a comprehensive set of indicators, including internationalization strategy, admissions integrity, academic performance management, international student support services, and residency oversight.
Institutions that achieve IEQAS certification benefit from streamlined visa procedures and other administrative advantages for international students. Universities that maintain certification for three consecutive years and meet enhanced performance criteria—including maintaining a very low illegal stay rate and achieving high evaluation scores—receive the elevated distinction of ‘Excellent Certification Institution,’ along with additional government recognition and policy incentives.
In the 2025 assessment, UNIST was recognized for its globally competitive education and research environment and its structured, student-centered support framework for international students. The university received particular commendation for its comprehensive mental health services, academic adaptation support, and integrated life and career guidance programs designed to foster student success.
“This designation affirms the strength of UNIST’s global education framework and our sustained commitment to supporting international students through a rigorous national evaluation process,” said Dean Youngbin Park of the Office of Public Relations and International Affairs. “We will continue expanding international programs and partnerships to cultivate globally engaged scientific leaders.”
A representative from the UNIST International Affairs Team added, “This recognition further strengthens UNIST’s position as a global research and education hub. We will continue enhancing our ability to attract outstanding international talent and deepen collaborative networks worldwide.”
With this recognition, UNIST reinforces its commitment to academic excellence, responsible internationalization, and the advancement of global science and technology education.
