On May 20, UNIST announced the appointment of Dr. Jae Ho Song, Chairman and CEO at Kyung Dong Holdings Co., Ltd., as the 10th Chairman of the UNIST Board of Directors. His term will last for a period of three years, until April 2028.
Dr. Song officially assumed his role as Chairman during a special Board meeting held at EL Tower in Seoul. This is his second term serving as Chairman, having previously held the position during the 9th Board in 2023.
Chairman Song is an esteemed alumnus of Sogang University’s Department of Business Administration and holds an MBA from the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. With extensive leadership experience, he currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Kyung Dong City Gas Co., Ltd., a prominent industry player specializing in city gas supply. Having previously served as a management strategy consultant, Dr. Song assumed the presidency of Kyungdong City Gas in 2005 and now also serves as CEO of Kyungdong Holdings Co., Ltd. Since 2015, he has held key positions, such as Vice Chairman of the International Gas Union (IGU) and Chairman of the Korea City Gas Association.
The relationship between Chairman Song and UNIST dates back to 2007, when Kyungdong City Gas generously donated KRW 5 billion to foster science and technology talent, even before UNIST’s establishment. In recognition of this support, UNIST established the Kyungdong Scholarship Foundation in 2008, and the university’s 4F Auditorium of the Main Administration Building was named ‘Kyungdong Hall’—a lasting symbol commemorating this generous contribution, which has supported over 570 scholarship recipients to date. Additionally, since joining the UNIST Board of Directors in 2015, he has contributed significantly to the university’s development. His appointment as the 10th Chairman reflects a continued commitment to advancing the university’s mission and strengthening its collaborations with the community and the nation.
Chairman Song expressed his commitment, stating, “I deeply recognize the importance of technological advancement in ensuring the prosperity of our country and future generations. I will do my utmost to serve as a guiding force for UNIST, the local community, and the nation, as we progress together.”
