On March 28, at around 10:30 p.m., a car came to a stop in the middle of road in Nam-gu, Ulsan. The driver, a patient who was experiencing seizures, was in need of urgent assistance. Luckily, passerby Ji Hoon Jeon, a fitness trainer at UNIST Sports Center, sprang into action and broke the window to rescue the driver.
Upon noticing the stalled car, Jeon had a gut feeling that something was not right. Approaching the vehicle, he discovered the driver having seizures due to epilepsy. Immediately, Jeon dialed 911 for emergency assistance. However, before help could arrive, the patient’s car suddenly lurched forward, colliding with another vehicle due to the uncontrolled seizure.
With a hammer provided by a nearby grocery store owner, Jeon broke the car window and pulled the patient to safety. He then administered first aid, ensuring the patient’s well-being until they could be transferred to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Reflecting on the experience, Jeon shared, “I had to act quickly to save the patient and prevent further harm. Breaking the car window was the only option I saw at the time. My background in sports and safety education helped me respond effectively.”
Looking to the future, Jeon stated, “If faced with a similar situation, I will not hesitate to take action to save lives.” Despite the attention received for his heroic actions, Jeon emphasized that the assistance of other citizens also played a crucial role in the successful rescue.
