On October 20, Ulsan Metropolitan City has announced the successful completion of the 2nd ‘Resilient City Ulsan’ forum, which took place at the Ulsan Exhibition and Convention Center.
This forum has been designed to discuss ways to develop regional disaster safety management plans and to share case studies on technological advancement and innovation for disaster response.
This is the second time the forum has been held. Took place in November 2021, the first meeting was held in commemoration of Ulsan Metropolitan City for being recognized as a role model for sustainability by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in June 2020. Not only that, the meeting was held to seek cooperation between public and private research institutes for customized disaster safety management.
Dean Sung Youb Kim (College of Engineering, UNIST) delivered opening remarks at the forum. This has been followed by congratulatory remarks by the Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Ulsan Metropolitan City, Head of the Safety Management Policy Bureau within the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), and President of NDMI.
At the forum, Professor Gyejo Kim from Changwon National University (Former Vice Minister for Disaster and Safety Management, MOIS) spoke as a keynote speaker. He stressed that local governments should pursue disaster policies based on smart disaster management systems, using advanced technologies, such as AI and ICT. This has been followed by presentations by Director Geumho Oh from the Earthquake Hazards Reduction Center of NDMI Director Choi Hee-Sun of the Korea Environment Institute.
Meanwhile, this meeting has been co-hosted by UNIST, Ulsan Research Institute, and the Earthquake Hazards Reduction Center of National Disaster Management Research Institute (NDMI).
