On October 29, the lawns of the UNIST Nobel Hill will transform into a vibrant hub celebrating the boundless potential of mathematics.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences is proud to host the Math Festa 2025–Mathematics Comes Alive, an engaging event designed to showcase how mathematics functions seamlessly in our daily lives and modern industries.
Open to all undergraduate students, the event invites participation through a simple QR code registration link. Attendees can enjoy interactive booths, insightful lectures, and fun quiz competitions, providing a firsthand experience of how mathematical principles underpin technological advancements and industrial innovations. Registration is available via the online link provided on the event poster.
The first part of the event, beginning at 5:30 PM, will feature a talk concert titled ‘Mathematics Opens the Way to Semiconductors.’ Renowned speaker YungBum Jung, Executive Director of Tech Sales at FuriosaAI, will discuss the critical role that mathematics plays in AI semiconductor development.
FuriosaAI is a leading company spearheading government initiatives for core AI semiconductor technology, making complex mathematical concepts accessible as the language of industry. Director Jung will illustrate real-world examples of how mathematical principles drive the design of semiconductors and AI learning processes, highlighting the innovative power of mathematics at the heart of technological breakthroughs.
Throughout the event, four interactive booths themed around mathematics will be set up at the lawn. Attendees will also receive a “Stamp Tour Leaflet” introducing departmental and faculty research areas.
Participants will explore solving everyday problems using the language of mathematics, discovering the order and logic behind numbers. Completing each booth mission grants souvenirs, and students who register in advance and participate in both parts of the program will receive a meal along with a certificate of Campus Leadership.
The second part features the exciting ‘Mathematics General Knowledge Quiz Bowl.’ Contestants will compete in a survival-style quiz, testing their knowledge gained from lectures and activities. The top three winners will be awarded prizes by Department Head Pilwon Kim of Mathematical Sciences at UNIST.
Department Head Kim emphasized, “We hope this Math Festa inspires students to see mathematics not merely as solving problems but as a powerful tool to open doors to the future and industry. Through engaging activities and insightful lectures, students will experience the vital connections between mathematics, AI, and technological innovation.”
