UNIST has taken a significant leap forward in strengthening its semiconductor education and research capabilities. This advancement comes through a generous donation from Metariver Technology Co., Ltd., which has provided state-of-the-art semiconductor process simulation software valued at around 4 billion won, paving the way for enhanced industry-relevant training and innovative research.
The signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding (MOU) was held on September 18, 2025. Among those present were CEO Seong-Won Jeong and key officials from Metariver Technology, along with Professor Tae-Sik Yoon, Dean of the Graduate School of Semiconductor Materials and Devices Engineering, Deputy Director Jung-Hwan Kim of the Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project, and Director Byungjo Kim of the Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Research Center.
The donated products, ‘samadii™ plasma professional permanent‘ and ‘samadii™ dem professional permanent,’ are advanced analytical tools designed to precisely simulate the physical and chemical reactions that occur during semiconductor manufacturing. These industry-grade software solutions are renowned for their accuracy and reliability in real-world applications.
With this donation, UNIST has acquired a total of 60 licenses, worth approximately 3.95 billion won. The initial allocation includes 10 licenses each for the Graduate School of Semiconductor Materials and Devices Engineering, the Semiconductor Characterization Support Project, and the Next-Generation Semiconductor Equipment and Process Research Center. This strategic distribution aims to strengthen the university’s comprehensive semiconductor education, from undergraduate courses to cutting-edge research.
By integrating these sophisticated simulation tools, UNIST expects to see a marked improvement in the precision of its semiconductor research, while ensuring its educational programs stay aligned with industry standards. Students will gain practical experience with tools used by leading semiconductor companies, equipping them with skills that bridge academic knowledge and industry needs.
CEO Seong-Won Jeong shared his thoughts, saying, “We are proud to support the development of future semiconductor talent and technological innovation. Our goal is to continue collaborating with educational institutions to foster growth for both industry and academia.”
Dean Tae-Sik Yoon, added, “This donation will accelerate UNIST’s efforts in developing skilled professionals and pioneering research. It will further play a vital role in supporting Korea’s semiconductor industry’s technological independence and global competitiveness.”
This donation signifies a major milestone in UNIST’s ongoing mission to nurture talented individuals and push forward innovative research in semiconductors—contributing to Korea’s technological independence and its leadership on the world stage.
