On February 19, 2024, UNIST warmly welcomed the Class of 2028 with a traditional ceremony for all new undergraduate first-year, transfer, and exchange students. The event took place in front of the Main Administration Building, where newly-admitted students gathered for a group photo to mark the beginning of their academic journey at UNIST.
The New Student Orientation, spanning four days from February 19 to 22, aimed to introduce incoming students to the diverse academic, intellectual, leadership, cultural, and social experiences available at UNIST. The orientation featured a series of welcome activities, community building exercises, and informative presentations on student success and campus safety.
This year’s student orientation was held fully in-person for the first time in four years and saw the participation of 135 currently enrolled students and 62 newly-admitted students.
The program kicked off with a welcome remark by Cheol-Min Ghim from the UNIST Office of Admissions, followed by various activities such as special lectures on mental health, preventing sexual harassment and violence in schools, and safety training. Students had the opportunity to interact with UNIST staff and faculty members, as well as connect with their peers through group activities and recreational outings.
During the orientation, the 80-minute full version of the parents’ congratulatory video, previously shown at the entrance ceremony, was screened for all attendees. Additionally, the award ceremony for the 2024 Pre-UNISTAR winner and the Honor Code Oath took place. UNIST’s Pre-UNISTAR program, designed to help students adjust to academic challenges by providing early exposure to calculus and general physics, recognized outstanding team projects during the award ceremony.
Part Leader SuYoun Son from the Office of the School of New UNISTars expressed gratitude for the students’ active participation, emphasizing the importance of supporting freshmen as they embark on their academic journey. The event concluded with a sense of camaraderie and excitement as the Class of 2028 officially began their educational experience at UNIST.
