A research lab, led by Professor Kyung Hwa Cho in the Department of Urban and Environmental Engineering at UNIST has a special occasion to celebrate.
Sangsoo Baek, who currently serves as a postdoctoral research associate within the Department of Urban and Environmental Engineering at UNIST, is about to begin his new career as an assistant professor at Yeungnam University.
Dr. Baek earned his doctorate degree under the guidance of Professor Cho. His research interests lie in the area of environmental modeling, using numerical methods and deep learning technologies. He has also published over 40 SCI-level journals. Based on these, Dr. Baek won the Korean Human Resources Award, the Minister of Science and ICT Award, and the Excellent Paper Award of the Water Resources Association.
“We have conducted various convergence studies with the support of the excellent computing power and the state-of-the-art equipment for experimental research at UNIST,” said Dr. Baek. “This success is largely due to UNIST’s best research environment.”
Dr. Baek got into UNIST as a graduate student in the Combined M.S./Ph.D. program of Urban and Environmental Engineering at UNIST in 2015. Having been interested in coding and computer modeling, he knocked on the door of Professor Cho’s Water-Environmental Informatics Laboratory (WEIL) without hesitance.
He is quite busy preparing for courses in the new semester, starting in March 2022. He is also interested in working on the development of new models, applying explainable machine learning models. He will begin his term as an assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Yeungnam University in March 2022.
“I look forward to teaching and to sharing my own experience and expertise in the field of environmental engineering,” says Dr. Baek.
