Kyung Hwa Cho, Professor of Urban and Environmental Engineering at UNIST, has been honored with an excellence award for this year’s Doosan Yonkang Academic Award for the Environment. Professor Cho was presented with an award plaque and KRW 10 million in prize money at the award ceremony, held in Jeju on November 9, 2022.
Professor Cho received credit for carrying out a number of research projects, proposed by the Ministry of Environment, which includes the prediction of cyanobacteria harmful algal blooms in Nakdong River using AI algorithm, thereby finding ways to supply safe drinking water.
In particular, he was honored for developing key technologies that offer solutions achieving carbon neutrality for a sustainable society. His works are expected to be used for the removal of hazardous substances from water, as well as air pollution and bioaerosols, containing bacteria and viruses possibly including SARS CoV-2 causing COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Doosan Yonkang Award for the Environment was established in 2019 with the aim to help facilitate the academic and technological advancements in the field of environmental research.
