Professor Myong-In Lee from the Department of Civil, Urban, Earth, and Environment Engineering at UNIST has been honored with the ‘Science and Technology Medal of Honor’ in the Science and Technology Promotion Sector at the celebration of the ‘2024 Science and ICT Day,’ which took place on April 22, 2024.
At the event, which aimed to honor individuals for their significant contributions to advancing science and technology in Korea and achieving remarkable research outcomes, Professor Lee was recognized for his outstanding work in the field of climate prediction.
With a wealth of experience spanning over three decades, Professor Lee has become a leading figure in climate science, particularly known for his groundbreaking research in developing advanced forecasting technology for heatwaves. His contributions not only drive scientific progress, but also address critical national and social challenges.
Professor Lee’s commitment to propelling science and technology in Korea is underscored by his previous prestigious accolades, such as the ‘Presidential Commendation’ received at the ‘2018 World Meteorological Day.’ His leadership in hosting the successful ‘International Conference on Meteorological-Ocean-Cryosphere MOCA-21‘ and spearheading research endeavors at the ‘Special Meteorological Research Center’ have significantly enriched Korea’s meteorological domain and fostered strong global research collaborations.
In reflecting on his accomplishments, Professor Lee emphasized the importance of developing precise numerical models to predict climate change and weather disasters on a global scale. He expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment of his efforts in advancing climate prediction technology for heatwaves at both national and international levels.
