On December 28, UNIST held the UNICorn Project Demo Day, inviting young starry-eyed entrepreneurs armed with their unicorn dreams.
The event took place in the main conference room of the Business Administration Building (114) at UNIST. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak and in light of health and safety, the event was held virtually. About 15 student startup teams took part and presented their ideas, and had been given advice from investment experts.
This year’s demo day event featured presentations and demonstrations from 15 participating teams. Students who presented their startup ideas through Demo Day have also been supported by the UNICorn Project, a program to foster innovative student entrepreneurs, organized by the UNIST Startup Team. The event provided a great opportunity for student entrepreneurs to shape and develop their ideas, and through Demo Day on this day, they also introduced their achievements and ongoing projects.
The UNICorn Project Demo Day consisted of two parts: Part I on “Machine Learning and IT-based Ideas,” and Part II on “Manufacturing Innovation.” The event has been attended by experts from Ulsan Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, Mirae Holdings Ltd., Busan Technology Holdings Ltd., Bokwang Venture Capital, AI Labs, and other related organizations.
In the first part of the event, eight startup teams proposed brilliant IT-based business ideas, aimed at making your life more convenient and enjoyable. Among those, one that received considerable attention was the idea of mobile VR entertainment platform idea, proposed by the team Asimula. During the session, the team proposed a mobile application service that features live streams and virtual concerts, allowing users to enjoy the virtual spectacle from the comfort of their homes, despite COVID-19.
During the second part of the event, seven teams presented their ideas in the field of manufacturing innovation. In particular, the team do:main, that proposed an EEG-based diagnostic tool, available for early detection of hearing loss impairment, received considerable attention.
