The ‘2024 UNIST Pioneers Festival,’ which highlighted the creativity and spirit of challenge among students, concluded successfully in the lobby of 108 Dong on November 29, 2024.
The event attracted the participation of 285 students, including 50 teams from the Undergraduate Convergence Research Project (UIRP) and the Artificial Intelligence Challenger Program (AICP). These participants showcased the research outcomes they have diligently pursued over the past year. Attendees were also introduced to a variety of learning support programs, including AI-enhanced Learning Management Systems (LMS) and the STAR-MOOC platform.
The festival served as a vibrant platform for UNIST student researchers to share their original ideas and innovative research results, while also promoting a dynamic learning environment. Student achievements from the UIRP and AICP programs were prominently displayed through poster presentations and physical exhibitions.
The event drew over 700 visitors from both internal and external communities, who expressed great interest in the presentations. Many attendees admired the students’ passion and creativity, with comments such as, “Seeing students conducting high-tech research like this makes me optimistic about the future of the Ulsan industry.”
The LMS booth provided guidance on system functionalities and future improvements, while the STAR-MOOC booth explained how anyone, including Ulsan citizens, can access outstanding lectures at UNIST free of charge.
The startup team also received positive feedback for organizing one-on-one consultations with industry experts. These practical sessions were instrumental in helping students refine their start-up ideas, further fueling enthusiasm for entrepreneurship within the region.
The festival’s atmosphere was enhanced by various participatory activities, allowing attendees to engage in stamp tours, popular poster voting, and digital learning studio experiences. VR and AR activities, as well as media production spaces, captivated the interest of many participants.
“The creativity and challenging spirit of our students will illuminate the future of the region,” President Chong Rae Park of UNIST remarked. “UNIST is committed to nurturing talented individuals who will lead the way in addressing global challenges through science and technology by fostering an innovative, student-centered learning environment.”
