The Center for International Affairs successfully hosted the 2024 Year-end Networking for International Faculty and Researchers event at the University-Industry Cooperative Building of UNIST on the evening of December 4, 2024.
This event aimed to enhance the sense of belonging among UNIST’s foreign faculty and researchers, while fostering cultural exchange and building strong connections among attendees.
Over 80 participants, including full-time and adjunct foreign faculty, researchers, and their families, attended the gathering. Individuals from various nationalities, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, India, and Vietnam, came together in a friendly atmosphere to establish rapport.
In his welcoming speech, President Chong Rae Park remarked, “UNIST is committed to strengthening the global research environment. We will implement various support measures to ensure that foreign researchers can focus on their work with pride.” He proposed initiatives aimed at expanding global R&D connectivity and enhancing UNIST’s international standing by attracting foreign talent and establishing a stable community for them.
The event’s dignity was further elevated by a performance from UNISTRA, the official orchestra of UNIST, conducted by Professor JongEun Lee from the School of Liberal Arts at UNIST. The classical melodies beautifully complemented the networking opportunities, allowing participants to communicate freely and share their thoughts and cultures amidst the music.
UNI, a student ambassador, played an essential role in facilitating the event by providing program guidance and interpretation support, ensuring a comfortable experience for all foreign attendees.
“I was impressed by UNIST’s warm hospitality,” said James Self, a professor in the Department of Design. “UNIST is dedicated to providing a stable research environment and networking opportunities for foreign researchers.”
Dean Young-Bin Park of Public Relations and International Affairs added, “We will continue to strengthen cultural programs and community support for our international members.” He also stated, “We plan to actively promote various support measures aimed at improving conditions for our international colleagues.”
This networking event exemplifies UNIST’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for its diverse academic community.
