“Dream big and be brave enough to see where it takes you,” said Mayor Gi-Hyeon Kim, who spoke Monday afternoon at UNIST Engineering Building.
On May 11, Gi-Hyeon Kim, the mayor of Ulsan Metropolitan City was invited to deliever a special lecture on realizing one’s dreams and ambitions, entitled “You are the Conductor of Your Life” before the eyes of 200 UNIST students. The primary purpose of this event was to help students realize their dreams and make successful career and life transitions, while forming the leadership talents that will support them in their future careers.
During the lecture, Mayor Kim emphasized the importance of dreaming big. He said, “You change your life when you change your mind.” He continues by saying, “Once you have the vision and conviction of what you want to accomplish, you will achieve your dreams.”
Mayor Gi-Hyeon Kim of Ulsan is a passionate Ulsan citizen, an accomplished business professional, and an active community leader. Prior to becoming mayor, he was a judge-turned-politician from the ruling Saenuri Party, serving as Chairman of Saenuri Party Policy Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Law from Seoul National University (SNU) and received a Master of Laws from SNU. After passing the bar exam in 1983, Mayor Kim began his career as a Judge at Pusan District Court Supporting Ulsan.
Gi-Hyeon Kim is currently serving his second year term as mayor of Ulsan. During his first term in office, Mayor Kim’s leadership has resulted in many positive changes to the city of Ulsan. The mayor has been working hard to build better communities by strengthening the City’s economy and creating more job opportunities. He is also committed to making investments that will help connect communities and provide better transportation options for all Ulsan citizens.
Mayor Kim states, “As college students and future graduates of UNIST, you have an obligation to dream big.” He adds, “Remember, you are the conductor of your life. So dream big, pursue your passion, and stay inspired.”
