UNIST and Ulsan Metropolitan City have joined forces to strengthen the bio-health industry, an area increasingly acknowledged as a key driver of future growth.
On October 17, the Business Incubation Center hosted the ‘Ulsan Bio Industry Association Inauguration Ceremony and Forum‘ at Haedong Hall. This event marked the formal beginning of collaborative networks involving industry, academia, research, and government in the bio-health field.
The newly formed association aims to accelerate growth in the bio-health sector by strengthening communication and collaboration among its stakeholders. Additionally, it seeks to assist local companies in their efforts to enter global markets. As part of this initiative, representatives from BIOCOM CA, the largest bio association in the United States, participated to foster international networking opportunities.
During the first part of the event, the association’s purpose and operational goals were presented. Attendees learned about government policies and support initiatives related to the bio-health industry, along with measures from Ulsan City designed to enhance bio-health activities. The variety of support programs available in Ulsan sparked considerable interest among participants.
In the second segment, BIOCOM CA shared insights into the current landscape of the bio industry in California and San Diego, showcasing success stories and the potential for growth within local industries. An interactive Q&A session enabled attendees to share their views and engage in productive discussions on practical collaboration strategies. Meanwhile, various technologies were showcased at the corporate promotion booth, promoting active networking among participants.
The event drew more than 60 attendees, including Ulsan Metropolitan City’s Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, Hyo Dae An, as well as representatives from BIOCOM CA, UC San Diego, and the BioHealth Industry Association. UNIST is dedicated to expanding its network by involving more companies and institutions, having already initiated discussions with over 20 companies, four research institutes, and five universities in collaboration with Ulsan City.
“UNIST has effectively commercialized technology based on leading global research in the bio field,” said Vice President Sung Chung Bae of Academic Affairs at UNIST. “Through this association, we aim to create a strong platform that supports the growth of competitive biomedical companies on the global stage.”
“The growth of our industry starts with insights from the field,” noted Vice Mayor Hyo Dae An. “With the establishment of the Ulsan Bio Industry Association, we are ready to elevate the Ulsan bio-health sector by strengthening collaboration among industry, academia, research, and government.”
