UNIST and the University of Seoul have recently announced the establishment of a collaborative partnership, solidifying their shared commitment to academic excellence and innovation. A formal ceremony was held at UNIST on September 22, 2023, to commemorate this milestone to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.
Under this agreement, UNIST and the University of Seoul will engage in various collaborative initiatives, including the exchange of teaching and research personnel, student exchange programs with mutual credit recognition, joint research projects, academic conferences, and support for start-ups. In-depth discussions were also held regarding specific cooperative projects, such as promoting the public utilization of research equipment for aligned research endeavors, joint research efforts in the field of smart city construction, and the establishment of a joint start-up platform. Additionally, a separate agreement for student exchange and credit recognition was signed, allowing for student exchanges from the upcoming winter semester.
President Yongkul Won of the University of Seoul expressed his belief that this partnership with UNIST will play a crucial role in driving the development of both institutions and enhancing their competitiveness through synergistic effects. He also anticipated great synergy, particularly in cooperative projects utilizing joint research devices.
President Yong Hoon Lee of UNIST echoed this sentiment by stating that “[T]hrough this collaboration, they aim to provide students with a wide range of educational opportunities and foster a vibrant start-up ecosystem.” He added that they look forward to leveraging the exceptional research capabilities of each university’s specialized fields to develop together.
The signing ceremony was attended by UNIST President Yong Hoon Lee, along with key staff members including Dean Ji Hyun Kim of Academic Affairs, Dean Myong-In Lee from the Office of Budget and Planning/Public Relations and International Affairs, Dean Jin Young Kim of Research Affairs, Dean Soon-Yong Kwon of University-Industry Relations. From the University of Seoul, President Won Yong-gul, Dean Hoon Park of Academic Affairs, Dean Jung Ha Lim from the Office of Budget and Planning, and Dean Yeon Doo Jung of Academic Affairs from the University of Seoul, were also present.
