UNIST has announced that four of its campus buildings have received the highest safety certification rating for educational facilities.
The buildings — including the Low Dimensional Carbon Materials Building, Advanced Material Research Building, Stem Cell Research Building, and Pioneers Campus — successfully passed the rigorous evaluation process conducted by the Korea Industrial Safety Association (KISA), earning the ‘Excellent’ grade in safety certification.
This certification, mandated under the “Act on the Safety and Maintenance of Educational Facilities,” applies to buildings with a gross floor area of 3,000 square meters or larger. The evaluation comprehensively assesses 49 criteria across three key areas: safety, indoor and outdoor environment, and maintenance management.
The assessment process involved thorough documentation review, on-site inspections, and expert review panels, ensuring a fair and accurate evaluation.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for UNIST, as all four buildings received the highest grade — a notable improvement from last year’s certification, which saw one building rated as ‘Excellent’ and two as ‘Good.’
Yong Joon Kwon, Director of the Safety Facility Management Division at UNIST, stated, “The systematic campus safety management and the establishment of a safety culture have been fundamental to achieving the ‘Excellent’ ratings.” He further expressed his commitment, saying, “Based on a safe environment for education and research, UNIST will continue to grow as a world-leading research university.”
