On June 27, UNIST Industry Innovation Team held the opening ceremony for the start of new academic term for its ‘AI Novatus Academia’ at the Pioneers Campus, marking the commencement of a specialized program designed to cultivate AI professionals tailored to the needs of local industries.
A total of 44 participants were selected for this cohort, comprising mainly employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), mid-sized companies, and public institutions within the Ulsan region. Participants are industry experts across various sectors who are actively exploring the adoption of AI technologies within their respective fields.
The ‘AI Novatus Academia’ is a hands-on AI education program that integrates theoretical instruction with Project-Based Learning (PBL). The program emphasizes directly addressing and solving real-world industry problems using AI technologies. Trainees work in teams to define issues faced by companies, analyze data, develop AI models, and derive practical solutions—experiencing the entire process from problem identification to implementation.
Through this initiative, UNIST aims to establish a foundation for the internalization of AI capabilities within Ulsan’s industrial sector and to accelerate the development of skilled professionals who will lead digital transformation efforts.
President Chong Rae Park stated, “AI Novatus Academia is not merely about theoretical learning but focuses on solving real-world problems to generate tangible results that the industry can perceive.” He further noted, “We will continue to grow alongside regional industries and reinforce UNIST’s role in supporting their advancement.”
