On February 5, UNIST hosted a roundtable discussion and seminar with the U.S. Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG Global) to foster cooperation in the field of defense science and technology at Haedong Hall.
This collaboration is anticipated to mark a significant turning point in the development of science and technology between the two countries while simultaneously strengthening their defense capabilities. The two organizations aim to establish a solid foundation for promoting research and technological innovation, with the goal of realizing joint sustainable projects.
The seminar was attended by notable figures, including Dr. Brandon Cochenour who serves as Science Director ONRG Global, Lieutenant Golonel Matthew T. Getts who serves as Director of Defense Development of U.S. Embessy, Program Manager ChangWon Seo from the Joint U.S. Military Affairs Group (JUSMAG-K)). UNIST was represented by 20 faculty members, including President Chong Rae Park, Vice President Hyun Sil Ahn of Research Affairs, and Dean KwanMyung Kim of Research Affairs.
This event served as a vital forum for discussions aimed at advancing practical technological development through collaborative efforts among industry, academia, research institutions, and the private sector. Both organizations are committed to deepening their partnership based on mutual trust and understanding.
Director Cochenour of ONRG Global stated, “Collaboration with UNIST, which possesses world-class research capabilities, will significantly enhance our efforts to promote defense technology innovation.” He added, “The joint research and projects of our two organizations will yield important advancements.”
President Park emphasized, “We will strengthen our position as a global research institute and expand our network through international seminars,” and added, “We aim to play a key role in the development of future defense technology.”
