On April 2, UNIST commemorated Arbor Day in Korea, observed on April 5, by planting Prunus yedoensis (Yoshino cherry) trees along the Pioneers Road, the pathway used by residents of the student dormitory. The event was attended by approximately 50 participants, including President Chong Rae Park, key university officials, members of the UNIST Graduate Student Council, and UNIST Dormitory Council.
This tree planting event served as a reminder of the importance of wildfire prevention, particularly in light of the recent wildfires in Uljin County. Attendees rallied around the slogan, “Prevent Wildfires, Smoke Thoughtfully, and Lead by Example!” reinforcing their commitment to fire prevention.

Delighted by the blooming tulips they planted last winter, the children added to the colorful garden by planting daisies, chrysanthemums, pansies, and pinks.
In addition to the celebrations, a tree-planting event took place in front of the UNIST Child Education Center, bringing together faculty members and children in a spirited display of community involvement. The children, thrilled to see the tulips they planted last winter bloom, enthusiastically contributed to the colorful floral garden by planting daisies, chrysanthemums, pansies, and pinks.
President Park expressed his vision for a sustainable, green campus as he planted a cherry tree, stating, “Let us sow the seeds of a bright future in the spirit of the pioneers walking along the Pioneers Road.” He further emphasized his commitment to creating a sustainable green campus.

President Chong Rae Park, Vice President Sung Chung Bae for Academic Affairs, and Auditing Director KwangWoo Lee participated in planting a Prunus yedoensis (Yoshino cherry) tree.
Director Jin Hyuk Choi of UNIST Dormitory highlighted the critical role trees play in moderating rising temperatures and reducing fine dust, adding, “I hope the trees planted today grow, alongside the dreams and memories of our students.”
UNIST is dedicated to fostering a culture of environmental protection through its annual tree-planting events, and this year was no exception as the university shared meaningful time with the community.
