Dr. Myeonggyun Han, a recent Ph.D. graduate from UNIST as of February 2024, has been appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Kyungpook National University (KNU).
Dr. Han, who holds both his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from UNIST, is poised to embark on his academic career beginning September 1, 2024. He is eager to contribute to the growth and development of his students at KNU, where he will focus on nurturing their potential.
Entering UNIST in 2013, Dr. Han completed his undergraduate studies in Computer Science and Engineering (Computer Engineering Track) before earning his doctorate under the mentorship of Professor Woongki Baek in the Computer Engineering and Intelligent Systems Software Laboratory. He further advanced his research experience at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).
His research has centered on developing system software that efficiently manages heterogeneous hardware resources for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing applications. His collaborative research with Professor Baek has resulted in eight published papers in prestigious academic conferences and journals, showcasing significant contributions to the field.
During his time at ETRI, Dr. Han focused on innovative system software technologies, such as Processing in Memory (PIM) and Separated Memory, aimed at enhancing next-generation computing environments. His work has not only elevated theoretical understanding, but also effectively improved practical applications, optimizing the performance of cloud services and AI systems through enhanced data processing and resource management.
As he prepares to start his new role at Kyungpook National University, Dr. Han remarked, “The experience and knowledge I gained at UNIST have been instrumental in shaping my research direction and guiding my academic journey. I look forward to growing alongside my students and dedicating myself to both research and education.”
