UNIST has announced that it has received a KRW 39 million scholarship fund from Green Investment Group (GIG), the global leading company specialized in the development of and investment in green energy, and TotalEnergies, a major broad energy company.
On June 14, the UNIST Graduate School of Technology and Innovation Management (GSTIM) held a donation ceremony to commemorate and display gratitude for GIG-TotalEnergies of the significance of this scholarship.
The event was organized as part of the industry-academic cooperation program for the development of offshore wind power in Ulsan Metropolitan City. At the ceremony, three outstanding students from the Department of New and Renewable Energy Technology Management and Innovation Management within the Graduate School of Technology and Management at UNIST were given a total of KRW 39 million in scholarships.
GIG and TotalEnergies have been working together to develop a giant floating offshore wind power generation complex with a combined total capacity of 1.5 GW off the coast of Ulsan. The two organizations had signed a cooperation agreement in January 2021 with UNIST and Ulsan Metropolitan City to establish an industry-academic cooperation program for the development of floating offshore wind business and to cultivate local talents and contribute to creating quality jobs.
Under this partnership, GIG-TotalEnergies promised to support lectures on floating offshore wind power, provide scholarships to outstanding students, and offer internship programs. UNIST has also been preparing a relevant curriculum for floating offshore wind business and share substantial materials required to train and run practice programs, in turn.
