UNIST has been recognized by the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning for having set an exemplary precedence in the public cloud services market.
On January 17, the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) held a presentation on its excellent performance on public sector Chief Cloud First Officer (CCFO) cloud consulting and utilization. At the event, UNIST was awarded the Cloud Computing Excellenc Award.
The Cloud Computing Excellence Award, presented by MSIP, honors vendors that have most effectively leveraged cloud computing in their efforts to drive the creation of a more robust domestic cloud services market.
The Chief Cloud First Officer (CCFOs) is a system launched by MSIP in 2016 as part of K-ICT Cloud Computing Activation Act to promote cloud computing by enhancing information security and user protection. It selects CCFO from organizations affiliated with MSIP to establish and implement the public sector cloud priority policy and leading utilization plan. As a result, each organization has applied more than one cloud. The plan is to revamp two state-run cloud server centers, completing a third one by 2018 and establishing a cloud procurement support center to help public agencies make the transition.
Under the direction of the Chief Cloud First Officer Chang Hee Joo, Director of UNIST Library and Ms. Sun-mi Kim, Team Leader of UNIST Information Technology team, UNIST has set up and applied a cloud computing activation plan. UNIST has been awarded for operating its official homepage under laaS system and its library information system under SaaS system.
“The UNIST Information Technology Team plans to carry out a research cloud server (tentative name) for researchers,” says Director Joo “This will enable researchers to provide the necessary research environment in various forms, reduce research time and cost, and enhance research security.”
The UNIST research cloud server, which will be deployed in the future, plans to increase the utilization rate from 20% to 70% by 2017.
The conference was attended by key officials from CCFO and private cloud consulting companies, affiliated with MSIP, including Software Promotion Division, Information Management Office, as well as the National Information Society Agency.
At the ceremony, Korea Data Agency has also been recognized for excellence in providing innovative cloud computing services, along with UNIST. The grand prize was awarded to the National Research Foundation of Korea.
