On September 3, UNIST officially celebrated the opening of the Novatus Graduate School at the Pioneers Campus. The ceremony marked a major milestone in advancing industry-driven education and research.
The event was attended by President Chong Rae Park of UNIST, Mayor Doo Kyum Kim of Ulsan Metropolitan City, President Sang Hoon Pyeon of Ulsan Research Institute (URI), President Young Shin Cho of Ulsan Technopark, President Byeong Tae Jang of the Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency (UIPA), President DongMok Shin of Ulsan Industry University Convergence Institute, and Director SeungHyun Kim of Korea Zinc Refinery, among others. They gathered to celebrate the launch of the new graduate school and welcome its inaugural students.

President Chong Rae Park delivered a warm welcome speech at the opening ceremony of Novatus Graduate School.
Novatus Graduate School is a specialized, two-year professional engineering graduate school focused on applied learning and industry needs. Its curriculum is designed to produce highly skilled technical professionals capable of immediate contribution to local industries, serving as a hub for industry-academic-research collaboration and regional innovation.
The program emphasizes enhancing problem-solving abilities, strengthening global competitiveness, and boosting regional industrial strength. Notably, the curriculum is tailored to accommodate working professionals, aligning AI and advanced engineering technologies directly with corporate demands.

Mayor Doo-gyum Kim of Ulsan Metropolitan City is delivering a congratulatory remark at the ceremony.
The establishment of Novatus Graduate School expands upon UNIST’s successful non-degree program, Novatus Academia, launched in 2021. While Novatus Academia primarily facilitated short-term AI projects, the new graduate school offers comprehensive master’s degrees across multiple engineering disciplines.
Starting this year, new majors include Industry AI Technologies and Mechanical Engineering. By 2026, the program plans to add specializations in Future Mobility, Future Energy, and Industrial Safety AI. Admissions for the 2026 academic year will begin this October.
The graduate school aims to undertake research projects tailored to the needs of local companies, ensuring graduates are workforce-ready and capable of immediate impact within regional industries.
President Park Jong-rae stated, “Novatus Graduate School will leverage UNIST’s top-tier research capabilities and educational infrastructure to create tangible results by connecting academia with industry. We are committed to nurturing the highest caliber of talent to lead the growth of our region and the nation’s future.”
