On November 23, UNIST took part in Kimjang Day: Making & Sharing Kimchi, an event organized at Hyejinwon, a social welfare facility located in Ulju County. The occasion brought together UNIST students, staff, and faculty in a heartfelt display of solidarity, as they united to share warmth and love with those in need, providing 1.5 million won worth of kimchi-making supplies and dedicating their time to prepare this cherished traditional dish.
Hyejinwon engages in the annual tradition of preparing Kimchi each winter. This year, 25 enthusiastic students and faculty members from UNIST, including members of the volunteer club UNIST HEART, rolled up their sleeves to participate in making Kimchi.
The volunteers dedicated themselves fully to the effort, joyfully mixing ingredients with sincerity and care, their faces reflecting the warmth and joy of sharing with others.
An official from Hyejinwon expressed gratitude, stating, “UNIST has been a steadfast supporter of our organization through various initiatives—including concerts and outings for individuals with severe disabilities.” He further noted “We are immensely thankful for their commitment, as it allows us to present a warm winter to those in our care through this Kimchi service.”
Dean Young-Bin Park of Public Relations & International Affairs at UNIST, remarked, “This event transcended mere sharing, as it was a meaningful opportunity for UNIST to engage with the local community.” He emphasized, “We are committed to strengthening our ties with the community and will continue our social contribution efforts.”
In recognition of its ongoing commitment, UNIST was recently designated as an institute recognized for social contributions in 2024 and has received the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Community Award for the second consecutive year. These accolades reflect UNIST’s dedicated efforts in various domains, such as education and welfare, and underscore its resolve to foster coexistence with local communities.
