The Robotics and Rehabilitation Engineering Lab of Professor Sang Hoon Kang (Department of Mechanical Engineering, UNIST) and the Ulsan Dong-gu Senior Welfare Center have embarked on an effort to promote local welfare and health among older people.
On March 18, a ceremony took place to push forward the cooperative partnership between the two sides. Under this partnership, both parties have pledged mutual beneficial cooperation in the following areas: ▲ Recovery of Physical Function and Health Promotion in the Eldery, ▲ Development of Rehabilitation Programs for the Elderly, and ▲ Joint R&D for the Physical and Mental Health of Elderly People.
“This partnership will push forward the R&D of rehabilitation programs for the elderly and the disabled, particularly for those, experiencing muscle weakness, as well as arthritis and related diseases,” says Professor Kang. “Through this, we hope to help improve the health of the elderly and restore their physical functions.”
Meanwhile, with the official launch of the Industrial Accident-Specialized Smart Healthcare Research Center in February 2021, UNIST has been actively promoting R&D efforts based on rehabilitation, diagnosis, and disease prevention, combined with other technologies, such as AI, VR, genomics, 3D printing, and robotics. About 15 professors, including Professor Kang, are currently carrying out research at the center.
