Jiyeon Kim, a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Wonyoung Choe’s group in the Department of Chemistry at UNIST, has been honored with the Rising Star Award by the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr). This distinguished accolade was presented during the 18th Asian Crystallographic Association (AsCA 2024) conference, held in Malaysia from December 3 to 6, 2024.
The Rising Star Award recognizes outstanding early career researchers under the age of 40. Award recipients were invited to present their work during a dedicated session at the conference and were recognized with a certificate and a cash prize of $1,000. Jiyeon Kim’s attendance at the conference was supported by the Korean Synchrotron Radiation User’s Association (KOSUA) through its Young Researcher Support Program.
At the conference, Jiyeon Kim delivered an invited talk on her pioneering “Up-Down Approach,” an innovative strategy designed to expand the chemical space and expedite the design and discovery of new metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). This transformative research has been featured in the December 2024 issue of Nature Synthesis.
