Derowing, the UNIST rowing club has honored with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Award at the 43th Jang Bogo Flag National Rowing Championship, which took place at West Nakdong River Rowing Arena from July 1-2, 2017.
In the two-day rowing competition, UNIST was able to collect 22 medals with the all-around victory at both Women’s University Division and Men’s Division.
The event was attended by rowers from universities and the general public and a total of 68 teams qualified for this year’s rowing competition. During the course of the event, the team has earned 3 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals, and 3 Bronze medals in the Women’s University Eight and the seven other categories. Moreover, the team was able to collect 13 medals — 4 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze at the indoor sprint rowing races.
“Although it is important to strive to win in sports, it is not the most important thing,” says JaeHyeon Ahn of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering. “As long as you continue to work hard and strive to win, you will one day achieve success.”
Coach Jan-Uwe Rohde, Professor of Natural Science at UNIST also partook in the Men’s division. Professor Rohde emphasized the importance of teamwork in rowing by saying “Rowing is a team sport. We win together and we lose together.”
