On January 23, UNIST has signed an MoU with GIG-Total and Ulsan Metropolitan City for the development of offshore wind power in Ulsan Metropolitan City.
The primary purpose of this partnership is to establish an industry-academic cooperation program for the development of floating offshore wind business and to cultivate local talents and contribute to creating quality jobs.
Green Investment Group (GIG), the global leading company specialized in the development of and investment in green energy, and Total, a major broad energy company, are developing a number of floating offshore wind projects in Korea of which some take place in Ulsan Metropolitan City and South Jeolla Province.
Under this MoU, GIG-Total will support lectures on floating offshore wind power, provide scholarships to outstanding students, and offer internship programs. UNIST will prepare a relevant curriculum for floating offshore wind business and share substantial materials required to train and run practice programs. Ulsan Metropolitan City will provide administrative support for the collaboration is operated successfully.
Meanwhile, GIG-Total has been seeking cooperation strategies from multiple angles with the Korean government and local companies including Ulsan Metropolitan City, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and SK E&C to successfully deliver floating offshore wind projects in Korea.
Established with the aim of advancing science and technology, UNIST promotes international research collaboration with industrial and academic institutions alike, and cultivate S&T talents who will play an essential role in the development of science and technology. Recently, UNIST has taken leadership in the Digital New Deal, which encompasses the areas of AI, healthcare, and semiconductors. By consolidating its research capabilities in eco-friendly energy and urban environment fields, UNIST strives to become a hub for research and development in support of the Green New Deal.
