“UNIST strives for excellence in teaching and learning,” says Dr. Pann-Ghill Suh, who is a Tenure Professor in the School of Life Sciences at UNIST.
For future students considering a degree at UNIST, Dr. Suh explains why they should choose to study at UNIST.
Dr. Suh states, “UNIST has a simple, but concrete vision, which is to become one of the world’s leading research-oriented universities by 2030.” He continues by saying, “With every member of UNIST striving earnestly to support that vision, I feel that we are getting closer to reaching that goal.”
According to Dr. Suh, UNIST is “a globally renowned research institute boasting top-rated academic programs, led by world-class faculty.” He believes that UNIST’s state-of-the-art research facilities, along with its world-renowned faculty give UNIST enough reason to be one of worlds’ leading research institutes.
When asked what advice he would give to aspiring young scientists, Dr. Suh responded: “Choose work that you enjoy because your attitude makes a huge difference in how well you do your job. Even leading scientists struggle with their work at times. If you don’t enjoy your work, you cannot keep going. Enjoy your research with passion deep in your heart, and more importantly, follow your dreams.”
In 2010, Dr. Pann-Ghill Suh joined the faculty of UNIST as an associate professor with research and teaching focus in various areas of signal transduction, biochemistry, and biological sciences.
Dr. Suh wears many academic hats. He is an elected Lifetime Member of the Society of Korean Academy of Science and Technology. Moreover, he is also a National Scholar (National Research Foundation of Korea) and also a Chairman of National Council of Basic Sciences and Technology in Korea. In addition to being a world-leading pioneer in biological sciences and biochemistry, in 2013, he was given the 7th Asan Medical Award for discovering the mechanism of cancer development and metastasis through study of cell signaling.
The Asan Medical Award, the most prestigious honor in the Korean Medical community given by Asan Foundation, recognizes the career of a scientist who has made outstanding contributions in the field of medical sciences or life sciences through their own research and teaching or in other venues.
