Yonghun Lee, a student in Professor Jimin Lee’s Laboratory (UNIST Artificial Intelligence Graduate School and Department of Nuclear Engineering), has been honored with the Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award at the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions 2024, held in Chicago in November 2024.
This prestigious award is conferred annually by the American Heart Association to recognize the best abstract submitted by authors representing each country. Yonghun Lee’s abstract achieved first place among those submitted by researchers from Korea.
In collaboration with UCLA Health, he developed a model for predicting maximum oxygen intake (VO2 max) by utilizing resting and semi-maximum exercise data obtained through the cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET). This model demonstrates high accuracy, particularly for individuals with low maximum oxygen intake, and has been evaluated as a valuable tool that can provide important health information for those with limited exercise capacity.
Reflecting on his achievement, Yonghun Lee stated, “Based on this experience, I aim to contribute to the development of medical AI models and assist medical staff and patients across various fields. I am deeply grateful to Professor Jimin Lee for fostering and guiding international collaboration opportunities with UCLA Health.”
Professor Lee commented, “This award represents a significant achievement that demonstrates the international recognition of the research capabilities at UNIST’s Artificial Intelligence Graduate School,” adding, “We will continue our efforts to achieve impactful international research results in the future.”
