Ha Jeong Jeon, a graduate student in the Department of Civil Urban Earth and Environmental Engineering at UNIST under the guidance of Professor Sang Seo Park, has been honored with the Best Student Poster Award at the 2024 Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) Annual Meeting.
The 21st AOGS General Assembly was held in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, from June 23 to 28, and drew over 4,000 earth science experts from 45 countries. The event featured presentations of research results, poster sessions, expert lectures, departmental discussions, and exhibition programs. At the closing ceremony on June 28, she was recognized as the winner of the Best Student Poster Competition.
The Best Student Poster Award selects up to seven winners in each category, evaluating scientific importance, poster design, and verbal presentation skills in eight fields, including atmospheric science, biological earth science, and hydrology. Jeon received this honor in the field of atmospheric science for his research on “Development of Algorithm to Produce Long-Term Climate Data Based on Geostationary Orbiting Environmental Satellite (GEMS)”.
Her research focused on developing an algorithm to produce stable long-term satellite data by fusing two satellite datasets (GEMS and TROPOMI). This innovation is expected to contribute significantly to the production of reliable climate change research data.
“I am thrilled that my research results have been recognized for their excellence,” said Ha Jeong Jeon. “This award is especially meaningful as it was presented at this year’s General Assembly, which was held in Korea.”
