UNIST is paving the way for enhanced collaboration and academic exchange with the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin).
On April 1, Dr. Sonia Feigenbaum, the Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement and Chief International Officer at UT Austin, visited UNIST to explore avenues for expanding comprehensive cooperation between the two prestigious institutions in areas, such as academia, research, and startups.
This visit marks a significant step following the signing of a business agreement between UNIST and UT Austin in November. It signifies the shared vision of both universities and their commitment to fostering collaboration through initiatives like researcher and faculty exchange programs. During the visit, UT Austin officials had the opportunity to tour UNIST’s cutting-edge research facilities.
Dr. Sonia Feigenbaum of UT Austin expressed keen interest in UNIST’s outstanding students, faculty startup initiatives, and industry-academia programs. She commended UNIST for its leadership not only in science and technology, but also in establishing a robust industry-academia ecosystem.
In his address, President Yong Hoon Lee highlighted UNIST’s aspiration to rank among the top 100 research-oriented universities globally. He emphasized the potential for Ulsan and Texas to address regional challenges, particularly in achieving carbon neutrality through advancements in energy, oil refining, and chemical industries. President Lee pledged active support for fostering stronger collaboration between the two institutions.
UT Austin, a prominent university in Texas, USA, holds a strong position in international rankings, standing 58th in the QS World University Rankings and 52nd in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. The partnership between UT Austin and UNIST leverages their expertise in energy and chemistry research, paving the way for joint projects aimed at advancing these fields on a global scale.
