Every year, the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) singles out breakthrough science and technologies as the Top 10 Science and Technology News of the Year.
The purpose is to inspire an interest of the general public in science and technology. The nominating committee has narrowed down the list to 31 potential candidates from the latest breaking science and technology news and research breakthroughs. Included among these were the world’s first technology, capable of storing information using insulator (non-conductor) by Professor Yoon Seok Oh (Department of Physics, UNIST). Professor Yoon emphasized that the new technology can hold more information than a memory that uses a semiconductor integrated circuit, as a storage medium. Their findings have also been published in the October 2022 issue of Advanced Materials.
“It is my absolute privilege and honor to be nominated as a candidate for the Top 10 Science and Technology News 2022,” says Professor Yoon. “We will focus on developing memory materials, using dielectric constant so that they can be used in various fields, such as memory and quantum information.”
The public voting poll for the Top 10 Science and Technology News 2022 will close on December 19, 2022. A total of 10 winning candidates will be chosen by evaluation from the selection committee, consisting of experts in each field of science and technology, and the results of public voting poll via the official website of KOFST (http://10news.kofst.or.kr). Those who take part in voting will also be given a prize through a lottery.
