On March 8, UNIST has announced that it has received a gift of 120,000 euros from Webasto Korea Co., Ltd. Their generous donation will be used to foster high-caliber talents in the field of future mobility.
A donation ceremony to commemorate and display gratitude for Webasto Korea Co., Ltd.’s generous donation will take place in the Ulsan plant of Webasto Korea Co., Ltd. The Webasto Foundation will donate a total of 120,000 euros in research funds over the next four years. As part of this, three graduate students were selected to receive 10,000 euros each.
The Webasto Foundation is founded by Webasto SE, a leading global auto parts manufacturer headquartered in Germany. The foundation has been providing support for non-profit organizations and associations around the world. It aims to encourage people, in general, to do more for others in their private, professional, and social contexts.
Recently, the foundation has been providing a wide range of research support for sustainable mobility, centering on its slogans, such as ‘We Shape the Mobility of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Innovation and Sustainability is the Future.’ This donation was an extension of Webasto’s sustainable mobility initiatives.
Through this, UNIST and the Webasto Foundation will be providing both research assistance and publication support in the field of sustainable mobility. The three students who will be given academic assistance are MyoungHyun Lee, JungTaek Lee, and YouRi Lee in the Combined M.S./Ph.D. program of Energy and Chemical Engineering at UNIST. Through this support, they plan on conducting research on solar energy technology, related to automotive roof systems for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Meanwhile, the ceremony has been attended by Chairman Lins Margit of the Management Board of Webasto Foundation, Executive VP Joerg Sandmann of Webasto APAC, President Tae-Bong Choi of Webasto Korea Co., Ltd., Dean Jin Young Kim of Research Affairs at UNIST, and other key representatives from both organizations.
