The recent work of Professor Joonbum Bae of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at UNIST has been broadcasted through KBS, a South Korean television network on November 6, 2016.
Under the topic, “Surreal Society: the 4th Industrial Revolution that Broke Down Boundaries”, Professor Bae’s humanoid avatar robot for emergency and disaster response was quite extensively featured in the KBS’s television documentary series, entitled “Designing the Future 2030”.

Professor Bae is currently working on the development of next-generation robotics that is capable of handling disasters that restrict human access. The research team hopes to find ways to apply fundamental robotic technologies to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief tasks in the three categories of robot platforms, human-robot interaction and control, and modeling of a disaster environment.
“We are very proud to announce that our lab has recently been featured on various television networks in South Korea,” says Professor Bae. “We hope to contribute to further developing robot technologies that is capable of handling disasters that restrict human access, thereby contributing to general well being of the people”.
Designing the Future 2030 is a Korean documentary television series that provides viewers an opportunity to expand their intelligence by learning more about important social, political, economic and environmental issues that affect our lives and the lives of those around us.
